With so many booking services at our finger tips these days, finding the perfect place to stay on your holiday can at times be a little daunting. Where do I start? What are the places really like? Is it value for money? What little extras are included? Having used a number of booking websites over the years, I have to say, having the opportunity to book somewhere unique tends to win me over and one of the sites that is great for just that is Airbnb.

Airbnb is more like a community, than a booking platform, and allows people to list, discover and book unique accommodation all over the world. Maybe you’re after an apartment in Paris, or want to live out your own fairy tale in a castle or maybe book a seaside villa for a special escape. Airbnb has it all, and more, and each place gives you the chance to connect with other people! The owners of these places tend to live in the same city so right away, this means you have the upper hand by getting local knowledge about where you’re staying, friendly recommendations and the kind of hospitality that can only be offered by your own host.

Soon, a very good friend of mine is due to be married and so the other bridesmaids and myself set about organising a bridal shower to celebrate our beautiful bride-to-be’s pending nuptials! Deciding on a mini weekend getaway, we turned to finding the perfect place to stay and hold a shower.

Searching Airbnb, I stumbled upon a couple of stunning places to book, but the decision was unanimous once we took a look at Haven for Health. Set in a fairly new estate on the edge of the Gold Coast Hinterland, this private oasis was just what we’d been looking for. Away from the main streets and night life (yet still only 10 minutes from the beach) it looked to be the perfect place for some quality down time with our bride-to-be and offered more than enough space for our shower. Haven is regularly used for different types of events and provides everything from extra seating, surround sound and projector screen (which we used for our very own movie night with a fitting viewing of ‘Bridesmaids’). Sharon, the owner, was incredibly helpful right from our initial enquiry and made the entire process leading up to our weekend a breeze!

Arriving on a somewhat dreary day, we expected the weather would lead to disappointment, however as soon as we walked through the large wooden door at the entrance those worries went out the window. The lush, tropical greenery and tranquil silence only made the light rain feel more fitting and we couldn’t imagine a more perfect setting!

Sitting against a backdrop of national forest, this beautifully designed home at the same time blends into the surroundings but also holds quite a commanding presence. The space inside the house is something that photos just can’t do justice to, and was one of the things that blew us away. High ceilings with wooden rafters and floor to ceiling windows in each pavilion created a sense of space like no other, with bi-fold doors opening the entire middle pavilion to the yard area and infinity pool outside. The two bathrooms also had floor to ceiling windows, looking out to the forest, one offering a beautiful, deep bathtub and the other a gorgeous rain shower.

Several rather unique pendant lights hung from the ceiling of the main pavilion, giving off just enough light to create an ambient atmosphere each night. Speakers were fixed up high on the ceiling, allowing you to plug in your favourite playlist and hear it throughout the main section of the home and patio. The day beds just outside from the kitchen were where we spent a majority of our down time, in between toasting marshmallows over the open fire by the pool.

The bridal shower was such a success and Sharon’s beautiful home really did make for the perfect space. We opened up the bi-fold doors where Danielle set up her incredible high tea, we put together a mimosa bar in the kitchen and played our own playlist through the surround sound. Having around 20 guests, not once did the home feel crowded, and there was more than enough space for all of our games (bridal bingo, pin the ring on the groom and bridal Pictionary to name a few). That night, after our guests had gone home, we lit up another fire and dined on pizza and champagne!
